Federal Minister Criticizes Unilateral Hike in Sarsabz Urea Price by Fatima Fertilizer Limited

Islamabad, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain condemned the unilateral price increase of Sarsabz Urea fertilizer by Fatima Fertilizer Limited on Saturday, expressing concern over the sudden hike. The price increase amounted to Rs. 561 per urea bag, which the minister urged the fertilizer company to retract.

According to Press Information Department, Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed that the fertilizer company must provide a solid justification for this unexpected price hike. He pointed out that there has been no increase in gas prices for the fertilizer industry, suggesting that the company’s price increase for Sarsabz Urea was unwarranted. He called the action unacceptable and stated that if the company fails to provide a valid reason, the Ministry of Industries and Production would determine prices.

The Federal Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests and maintaining the stability of fertilizer prices. He mentioned that efforts are underway to collaborate with provincial authorities to combat the hoarding of fertilizers, and mechanisms are being developed to track the real-time stock of fertilizers across the country. He emphasized that fertilizer companies should focus on providing facilities to improve farmers’ productivity and ensure that the price of essential agricultural inputs remains stable.

Rana Tanveer Hussain’s statement indicates a strong stance against unjustified price increases, with the government’s aim to safeguard the interests of farmers and prevent undue financial burdens on the agricultural sector.
