High level meeting review arrangements for cattle markets on Eid-ul-Azha

Karachi, September 20, 2012 (PPI-OT): KMC has planned perfect arrangements for annual cattle market on Superhighway for Eid-ul-Azha. No charges will be made on the entry of sacrificial animals in Karachi from 1st to 10th of Zilhaj. The arrangements of the country’s biggest cattle market (of sacrificial animals) will be made jointly by KMC, Pakistan Army, Rangers, Police, Cantonment Board Malir and Deputy Commissioner Malir.

An expected 3 Lac cows/buffalos and 7 Lac goats would be brought to cattle market this year. A meeting in this connection was held in Civic Center under the chairmanship of KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed which was attended by President Cantonment Board Malir Brigadier Mansoor Mehmood, Lieutenant Colonel Tariq, S.S.P Traffic Ashiq Ali Badar, Deputy Commissioner Malir Qazi Jan Muhammad, Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Senior Director Medical Services Dr. A.D Sajnani, Senior Director Veterinary Services Mukhtar Hussain, Administrator cattle market Nauman Ahmed, Senior Director Municipal Services, Director Anti-encroachments, Chief Fire Officer and other high officials.

Administrator Karachi on this occasion said it happened to be the biggest event of the year as the city host the biggest cattle market in Pakistan with lot of sacrificial animals brought from many cities of the country.

He said sell of sacrificial animals on other places except for the designated cattle markets would be forbidden in Karachi with the enforcement of section 144.

In case anyone found doing so still, he would be arrested and the cattle will be seized by government. Administrator Karachi said unauthorized and scattered cattle markets in the city not only caused traffic jam on all around but also created heaps of waste and garbage on roads and the citizens have to face acute trouble due to this.

The arrangements this year would therefore be made quite transparent and exemplary with strict security measures at the cattle market and especially in the parking lot. The Bomb Disposal Squad will also be deployed at such locations.

Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed directed the Director General Technical Services to set up two to three access routes to main cattle market from rest of the city besides the usual Superhighway route including Malir Cant. Road, Mausamyat Road and other linking roads which connects with the Superhighway. He said these routes to cattle markets must be made travelable.

He said the cattle market at Superhighway will be established from the 1st October till Eid-ul-Azha. Administrator Karachi directed the Municipal Services Department to perform daily anti-mosquito spray in the cattle market during evening hours.

President Malir Cantonment Board Brigadier Mansoor Mehmood informed the meeting that the arrangements for cattle market were already given final shape with the preparation of a security plan for the sellers and buyers of cattle.

He said public toilets will be set up in the market and the lighting arrangements will be made with the standby generator.

S.S.P Traffic Ashiq Ali Badar said the traffic plan for the cattle market had been worked out with the setting up of separate routes for going to and from the cattle market.

Senior Director Veterinary Services Mukhtar Hussain told KMC earned an estimated Rsw40million on Eid-ul-Azha as free for entry of cattle in Karachi. A team of veterinary doctors of KMC would work at the cattle market on permanent basis.

He said like previous years cattle markets would be setup on six designated locations in Karachi including cattle market at Superhighway, Bin Qasim Cattle Colony, Malir Bakrapiri, Landhi near Rice Godam, Mawach Goth, Baldia, and Hub Dam near Manghopir Road.
