Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s President welcomes three ordinances promulgated relating to thalassemia, mental healthcare and health commission

Karachi, May 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s President Muhammad Haroon Agar has welcomed the three health ordinances promulgated relating to thalassemia, mental healthcare and health commission signed by Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan on the occasion of International Thalassemia Day.

He stated that implementation of these laws would help control and prevent thalessemia and streamline healthcare in the Sindh province. He appreciated the move of adding a column about thalassemia test in the marriage certificates whose filling would be obligatory after promulgation of thalassemia ordinance.

On the occasion of Thalassemia International Day, President KCCI Muhammad Haroon Agar, accompanied by Senior Vice President Shamim Firpo, Vice President Nasir Mehmood also visited Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation.

Exchanging views thereby he stated that creating awareness regarding thalassemia and its precautionary measures were need of time. He stressed to educate youth regarding health matters, hygiene and preventions and such education should be taught at colleges and university level to broaden awareness and enlightenment.

President KCCI stated that youth at colleges and universities must also be taught to act as social and health volunteers to create awareness in the local areas and town. The ratio of literacy rate of our country still rests unsatisfactory and is the reason why our country has enormous problems and has imbalanced socio and economic conditions. Education and Health Sectors hold fundamental importance for any country and presently Pakistan is in a dire need to establish high quality educational and health institutions.

Haroon Agar said that providing better education and health facilities to the children and youth should be a prime responsibility as the youth is our future. Although the Government is making notable efforts to enhance the literacy rate, however, he believed that the participation in this noble cause on Public-Private Partnership basis is important to provide quality education and health services to the less-privileged class of the society.
