Pakistan and Saint Lucia Establish Formal Diplomatic Ties

Islamabad, Pakistan and the Caribbean island country, Saint Lucia, have officially established diplomatic relations in a ceremony held at the Pakistani mission in New York.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, and his Saint Lucian counterpart, Ambassador Menissa Rambally, signed the joint communiqué formalizing the ties. Ambassador Akram highlighted the existing cooperation between the two nations at multilateral fora and expressed optimism that formal relations would enhance bilateral engagements in trade, commerce, political cooperation, and tourism. He also noted the shared passion for cricket between the peoples of both nations, foreseeing stronger people-to-people bonds and potential tourism growth.

Ambassador Rambally emphasized the already strong relationship between the two countries and looked forward to deepening these ties further. She mentioned Darren Sammy, a former West Indies cricketer from Saint Lucia and an honorary Pakistani citizen, as a symbol of the warm relations between the two peoples.
