Punjab Home Department Sets Stringent Security Measures for Independence Day

Lahore: In anticipation of Independence Day celebrations, the Punjab Home Department has issued comprehensive security guidelines to ensure the safety of the public and the protection of sensitive sites across the province. The directive encompasses a wide range of precautions, from the deployment of additional security personnel to the technical sweeping of venues.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab announcement issued on 12 August 2024, the guidelines mandate foolproof security measures, including the strict monitoring of entry and exit points, enhanced surveillance at busy public places like markets and parks, and the establishment of a special task force to address reckless driving behaviors among youth. The directives also require close coordination between law enforcement agencies and intelligence bodies to preempt any security threats.

Commissioners and District Commissioners are instructed to rigorously review security protocols for all scheduled events leading up to and on August 14, 2024. Additionally, the guidelines call for heightened readiness from emergency services, including Rescue-1122 and Bomb Disposal Squads, to respond swiftly to any incidents. The health department has been tasked with ensuring that designated hospitals are fully prepared to handle emergencies, underscoring the government’s commitment to maintaining public safety during national celebrations.
