Karachi: The current 9th monsoon spell is expected to affect both southeastern and northern parts of Sindh.
According to Radio Pakistan, the southern districts, including Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mithi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, and surrounding areas are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall. However, northern districts such as Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, and surrounding regions will experience light to moderate rainfall.
The NDMA has reported very high but steady flood levels at Qadirabad (530,537 cusecs) and Chiniot (494,190 cusecs), while Khanki is falling but still at very high levels. Marala remains steady at high, and Trimmu maintains medium levels. The water flow at Head Muhammad Wala and Sher Shah is improving. Residents of low-lying areas from Qadirabad to Trimmu are advised to remain cautious due to the extraordinary water flow noticed in the River Chenab’s tributaries and Palkhu nullah, which can cause flooding in nearby villages.
In the Ravi River, there is a flow of 100,000 cusecs at Shahdara and 134,000 cusecs at Balloki. At Head Sidhnai, a very high-level flow of 135,000 cusecs is being maintained, while at Jassar, the flood situation ranges from moderate to high. In the Sutlej River, at Ganda Singh Wala, there is a high-level flood with a flow of 327,000 cusecs. High-level flood conditions also persist at Sulemanki and Islam Headworks. Continuous rainfall and ongoing water discharge from Indian dams contribute to the persistent flood conditions in the eastern rivers.
The NOEC has also predicted rainfall and land sliding in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Heavy rain is expected in Azad Kashmir, especially in districts Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Bagh, Poonch, and Sadhnoti. Potential land sliding can affect roads in Torghar, Batagram, Shangla, Lower Kohistan, Tattapani, Chitral, Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu.
