Senate Committee on Government Assurances Reviews Implementation Status in Islamabad

Islamabad: The Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances convened today at Parliament House, presided over by Chairman Senator Abdul Shakoor Khan, to scrutinize the progress of various government commitments. The session focused on evaluating the actions taken by different divisions to fulfill assurances given between 2019 and 2024.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the Secretary of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs briefed the Committee on the status of these assurances, noting that 23 reports had been submitted over the five-year period. Delays in report submissions are addressed through coordination and reminders to the respective ministries, with further reassurances requested as needed. Chairman Khan emphasized the importance of meticulous review of these reports to ensure that promised actions have been effectively carried out.

The Committee also addressed specific concerns raised by members, including the need for detailed updates on the Hyderabad and Sukkur Motorway from Senator Zamir Hussain Ghumro, and inquiries into nationwide internet slowdowns highlighted by Senator Dost Muhammad Khan. Another significant discussion involved a missing file for a house in Sector I-10/4, Islamabad, reported missing over three years ago, with assurances given for resolution by September 6, 2024.

Chairman Khan urged the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to maintain close communication with the Committee on all matters pertaining to government assurances and called for legal action against those responsible for the disappearance of the Islamabad file. The meeting was attended by notable senators and senior officials, all collaborating to ensure accountability and transparency in governmental operations.
