Finance Minister Highlights ADB’s Support in Pakistan’s Economic and Environmental Initiatives

Islamabad, In a pivotal meeting with Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Young Ye, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb discussed the fruitful collaboration between Pakistan and ADB, emphasizing the bank’s significant contribution to the country’s economic development and climate resilience efforts. The dialogue underscored ongoing projects and future endeavors aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s economy and aligning it with sustainable and environmentally conscious practices.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Young Ye offered commendations for Pakistan’s recent staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), noting the positive market reaction as a testament to the country’s economic management. Minister Aurangzeb expressed his gratitude towards the ADB for its continued support, particularly through Policy Based Lending, which has been instrumental in addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic and recent flood disasters.

The discussions also touched upon the progress of existing policy-based programs, such as the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Program and the Climate and Disaster Resilience Enhancement Program. These initiatives are pivotal for Pakistan’s strategic approach to economic stability, disaster preparedness, and climate change mitigation.

Minister Aurangzeb lauded the ADB’s role in fostering climate-conscious programs throughout Asia and the Pacific, highlighting the synergy between the bank’s climate operations and Pakistan’s climate objectives. He outlined the government’s commitment to macro-economic stability and sustainability, which includes enhancing revenue, reforming State Owned Enterprises, furthering privatization, and expanding public-private partnerships.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed dedication to strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and the ADB, aiming to achieve mutual goals of sustainable economic growth and development. This collaboration is set to propel Pakistan towards its ambitions of becoming a more resilient, economically stable, and environmentally conscious nation.
