Islamabad, Pakistan and China have committed to an accelerated implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, focusing on several key sectors including industry and infrastructure development.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a meeting in Beijing between Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and Zhao Chenxin, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of China, both nations agreed to deepen their cooperation. The discussions led to the resolution to enhance the connectivity of Gwadar through the construction of the Eastbay Expressway and to intensify cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and agriculture modernization under CPEC’s second phase. Additionally, the two countries resolved to implement the Industrial Cooperation Framework Agreement and develop an action plan aimed at modernizing industry, mines, and mineral sectors.
The meeting also resulted in the signing of four memorandums of understanding for technical studies on major road projects including the D.I Khan-Zhob Road and the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway, further emphasizing the strategic importance of improving road and highway infrastructure. The commitment to support Pakistan’s transition towards clean and renewable energy was also highlighted, with particular focus on the early implementation of the Azad Pattan and Kohala Hydel Power Projects.
